Newborn checklist with prices

What to have ready before the birth, and what each thing costs from the cheapest option to the dearest. Most prices come from real shop listings and move when the shops change them. The rest are planning estimates, and marked as such.

Getting around

The car seat comes first: you need it to drive home from the hospital. A stroller with a newborn setup, a carrycot or a seat that lies flat, can follow a few weeks later if money is tight.

Sleep

A newborn sleeps on their back, on a firm, flat mattress, with nothing else in the cot. A sleeping bag takes the place of loose blankets.

Changing and bathing

Buy nappies in small packs at first. Newborns grow out of the smallest size fast, and brands fit differently.

Clothes

Sizes 50/56 and 62 cover the first weeks. Get some of each. A baby can outgrow newborn size within weeks, and some skip it entirely.

The total

Everything on this page: 1.112 € to 4.514 €

The low figure is the cheapest option for every item on this page, added up. The high figure is the dearest. An item with no recorded price isn't counted, and the total says so.

Not on this list

Feeding gear depends on how you plan to feed, so breastfeeding and bottle feeding each have their own section in the app. A high chair, stair gates and toys can wait until later months.
