Choosing a stroller for a newborn, with prices
For the first months a baby lies flat, so a newborn needs a carrycot or a seat that goes fully flat. Past that, the choice is about where you walk, how you travel and the size of your boot.
The options

Cheapest first, priced with the carrycot where it's sold separately. Each product page says what the recommendation rests on, and what hasn't been checked.
What to check
- A carrycot, or a seat that lies fully flat, from birth.
- EN 1888, the European standard for strollers.
- A seat that can face you as well as the road.
- The folded size, against your boot. Measure the boot.
- Where you walk. Small wheels suit pavements and shops; bigger ones suit gravel and parks.
Made for one stroller
Rain covers and car seat adapters usually fit one model only. Budget for them with the stroller you pick, and check the adapter list for your car seat before buying either.
Heat and cold
In the sun, use shade that air can flow through. Never drape a blanket or a muslin over the pram: it traps heat. In the cold, a footmuff helps, but check the manual first, since some carrycots rule them out. Take it off indoors.
